Fruit Stand
Our fruit stand is open daily from early-June through the end of November with a wide selection of locally grown seasonal produce. The months of August and September are the peak of the season for our three main specialties: tomatoes, peppers and melons. We also sell local Brentwood cherries during the month of June, as well as Brentwood sweet corn from June through September.
Spring and Summer
Our produce season begins in late-May or early-June with a selection of stone fruit including peaches, apricots, nectarines, plums, pluots and apriums, in addition to local cherries. Our famous heirloom tomatoes and peppers arrive in July and last through mid-October. Other seasonal favorites include fresh Brentwood sweet corn, melons, summer squash, pears, strawberries, blackberries.
Fall
In October and November, we continue produce select tomatoes and fruit, plus Fall favorites like apples, persimmons, pomegranates, pears and squash. The stand is also stocked with a huge variety of decorative and edible pumpkins, corn stalks and gourds.
Our Tomatoes
Janice and Ken Smith were among the first farmers to sell heirloom tomato varieties commercially in California in the late 1980s, with their produce becoming coveted by some of the best chefs in the Bay Area, including Alice Waters and Roland Passot. While the quality of the produce has not changed, Smith Family Farm now sells most of its tomatoes at the fruit stand, where over a dozen varieties are available at a time. Whether you are making a Michelin-star quality dish or canning a year's supply of tomato sauce, Smith Family Farm has the perfect variety, always picked at the peak of ripeness.
